Nero d'Avola is the most dominant red variety in Sicily and is known for having bold sweet red fruit flavours along with black pepper, licorice and spice flavours and sometimes a subtle sweet smoky finish.
In the Gibson vineyards, Nero d'Avola was grafted onto older Semillon rootstocks in 2011. These roots give a fruit intensity usually only found with older vines. The elevated west aspect vineyard, with its red-brown earth over calcareous clay subsoil, produces great Shiraz grapes on this site.
The Gibson Wines 2019 version of Nero d'Avola Bright has an aroma that is distinctly briary and fruity, strongly reminiscent of cranberries. On the palate, this wine is bright with good acidity, rounded, warm and medium weight with soft berry and spice flavours which linger on the palate.
