Persistence perfectly describes Grenache in the Barossa Valley. Having persevered as the workhorse variety it is often used in blending and often undervalued but in exceptional years it is truly world-class. 2022 was one of those years and marks the seventh release of the Persistence Grenache.
The wine is lighter in colour with medium red hues and a nose of spicy berry characters. The palate is soft, spicy and full flavoured with depth and length of flavour being the highlights of the wine with it finishing soft and long.
The fruit was selected from Gobell and Hage vineyards - two hogsheads of each being the best Grenache barrels from the vintage. Open fermented and extended time on skins of 7-10 days then pressed and racked to older oak. E
This vintage had excellent winter rainfalls and lighter spring rain coupled with an Indian summer that created near-perfect growing conditions albeit a little dry. Yields were slightly above average delivering good fruit flavours and healthy grapes.
